Continent Play-Doh Mats

These continent play-doh mats are designed to support hands-on geography and creative activities.

Activity Ideas:

1. Continent Colouring: Encourage children to colour the outline.
2. Pattern Practice: Add dotted lines within the shape for practising pencil control lines, such as zig-zags, loops, or curves.
3. Tearing and Gluing: Tear small pieces of tissue paper or construction paper and glue them to fill each continent shape.
4. Sensorial Texture Collage: Fill the shapes with different textures (felt, sandpaper, cotton) for a tactile activity.
5. (Mixed Media) Collage: Use each outline as a base for a collage; use magazines, construction paper, or natural materials like leaves and flowers.
6. Shaping Clay / Dough: Mould clay or dough to match the shape of each continent using the template as a guide; laminate the page for durability, or cover the template with transparent grease-proof / tracing paper.
7. Sand Art: Apply glue and sprinkle coloured sand to decorate the continent outline, fill the continent shape, or fill in smaller shape sections (repeat until the entire continent is filled).
8. Threading: Laminate and punch large holes along the edge of the continent outline to thread with a string.
9. Festive Decorations: Decorate the continents for seasonal, holiday or unit themes.
10. Writing / Drawing Frame: Use the outline as a frame to draw or write about each of the continents.
11. Story Illustration: Prompt the child to narrate a story set in one of the continents. Encourage them to illustrate a related story picture within the frame of the continent outline.
