Bead Stair Booklets

These short coloured bead stair booklets were designed to support children in their mastery of early quantity counting and increase their familiarity with the short Montessori bead stair. There are 5 booklet variations included in this digital product.

Preparation:

Print your preferred booklet variation. Cut the pages to separate them. Gather any materials the child will need to complete this activity – what the child is using to 'colour' and a pencil.

Extensions and Extra Tips:

• This activity supports repetition for mastery; refresh the activity by rotating art materials for the child to 'colour' with (i.e. watercolour paints, felt-tip pens, colouring pencils, crayons, stamps, stickers, etc.).
• If a child is miscounting, encourage them to count aloud while pointing to each bead with their finger.
• If possible, pair the booklets with a box of short bead bars. We have a much-loved DIY set on the shelf (made with wire and pony beads).
• The booklet pages can be laminated (as shown in some of the thumbnails); I cut circles out of craft foam and used small velcro dots to add a tactile, one-to-one correspondence element to this activity. We didn't have gold craft foam, so instead I used gold card for the number 10. We later reused these tactile circles by preparing thick lollipop sticks to hold the small velcro dots; the sticks make an incredibly useful and easy-to-handle support during many early maths works.

This short bead stair activity has 25 pages. It was among the first series of resources I made – which means it is, sadly, only available in A4 paper format. If you wish to print this activity on US-Letter paper, please adjust your printer settings. There are 5 booklet versions: version 1 – coloured borders and coloured beads, with tracing; version 2 – coloured borders and blank beads, with tracing; version 3 – coloured borders and blank beads, with print text; version 4 – coloured borders and coloured beads, with print text; version 5 – black borders and blank beads, with tracing. I hope that within the variety, there is a suitable version for your classroom / homeschool needs; however, please be aware that there is no blank booklet option for writing.
